Holden Village is a year-round, Lutheran family retreat center welcoming people of all ages, races, faiths and lifestyle. The village, originally a mining town, nestles at 3,200 feet elevation in the narrow Railroad Creek Valley within the boundary of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. Rugged, snow-capped mountains soar above the tiny village, which is surrounded by great fir forests and within hiking (or snowshoeing/skiing in winter) distance of alpine lakes and glaciers. The village is reached by boat on Lake Chelan. Up to 7,000 people visit Holden Village annually – at least a third of them volunteers who keep the village operating. Holden continues to host guests during the winter and seeks summer volunteers during a massive clean-up of the former mining site in Railroad Creek Valley.
Luther Heights Bible Camp is an ELCA outdoor ministry based in central Idaho, nestled between Ketchum and Stanley in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area in the Sawtooth Mountains. Luther Heights is an ACA-Accredited camp, offering summer youth programming, retreat opportunities for all ages, family camps, hosted groups, and traveling day camps. We value our partnerships with 19 member congregations in the Northwest Intermountain Synod, as well as partnerships with community organizations throughout Idaho. Luther Heights is dedicated to fulfilling our mission to create experiences for all people to grow in faith. Campers experience God’s beauty in the mountains and meadows at 7,200 feet, with opportunities to hike, canoe, mountain bike, fly-fish, and horseback ride, among other camp adventures. Luther Heights has four rustic log cabins and nine modern cabins, two spacious lodges with full meal service, a low ropes course and archery range, and access to Lake Alturas. Those who come to Luther Heights will connect with positive Christian role models, participate in daily Bible study, explore the beauty of creation, and sing and praise God around campfires.
