Reconciling in Christ Welcome Statement - NWIM Synod

The Northwest Intermountain Mountain Synod spans a vast, resilient landscape with many diverse ecosystems, from alpine summits to desert canyons, sage steppe to Ponderosa pine forests, grasslands, riparian areas, and many more environments.  Our region also supports varied croplands, rangeland, and diverse economies.  Together, this complexity is the strength and beauty of our region.  We likewise proclaim that the church is stronger and more resilient when we include all people.  As disciples of the risen Jesus Christ, we strive to follow His teachings to love our neighbor, just as Christ unconditionally loves us.  We therefore welcome all persons, including those who sometimes find themselves excluded: diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, ages, gender identities, sexual orientations, economic or social or educational status, and differing abilities. Just as in I Corinthians 12, we receive instruction that the Body of Christ cannot function without all of its members, our ministry together, our worship, and our community are strengthened by including all people.  We commit to being inclusive in our synodical work, including ministries, trainings, candidacy, advocacy, and governance.  We commit to encouraging congregations and ministry sites within our synod to prayerfully study and consider becoming a Reconciling in Christ location, doing the work of welcoming, and working toward racial equity.  To that end, we commit to providing support and resources for both individuals and ministry sites. Together we pray, “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
