Diaper Ministry

At the April 28-30, 2023 Synod Assembly of the Northwest Intermountain Synod of the ELCA, a resolution was passed to “encourage the development and support of diaper banks within our communities.” The following are some tools, resources and contacts for those who are interested in beginning or strengthening a diaper ministry within their context.

Current NWIM Diaper Ministry Locations:

Both of these congregations have had several years of diaper ministries under their belts. They would love to discuss and offer ideas, brainstorming and suggestions! Please reach out!

Where to start:

  • Add your local diaper bank to your Ministry of the Month

  • Request diaper donations in connection with a baptism or birthday in your congregation

  • Use the existing fundraising portal on the National Diaper Bank (or your local one) to run a short term fundraiser in your community

  • Start a fundraising competition between churches in your neighborhood, city or cluster

  • Volunteer at your area diaper bank for God’s Work Our Hands Sunday or ask your local diaper bank how to best support them in the month of September (or at a time of your choosing)

  • Donate offerings from your Sunday School, Women’s Circle or coffee hour

  • Partner with your local diaper bank to add diapers to your existing food pantry
