2025 Synod Assembly Recap

Just over two weeks ago voting members from across the Northwest Intermountain (NWIM) Synod gathered for the 2025 NWIM Synod Assembly via Zoom. I think it is a safe assumption that nobody’s ideal way to spend a Saturday in May is by sitting in a Zoom meeting for 5 hours. And yet it was evident that God’s Spirit was at work bringing the refreshing waters of life. It was good to be together for worship and prayer. It was good to hear reports about the work of the Synod and about where Synod is moving in the future. It was good to elect council and committee members; to approve the proposed budget; to amend the constitution and bylaws. And the NWIM Synod got a little be larger as we received Christ the King Lutheran Church, Milton-Freewater, OR into the Synod. A summary of actions will be available in the near future.

In this enews article, I would like to lift up a few things:

  • We are still receiving donations for the Synod Assembly Offering. It is designated for Lutheran Community Services of the Northwest. Our goal is to raise $6000 to be shared equally in Boise, Tri-Cities and Spokane. You can donate using this link. On the dropdown menu, choose 2025 Assembly Offering. You can watch this video to see a bit about the important work Lutheran Community Services is doing out of their three offices in the NWIM Synod (Spokane, Tri-Cities, and Boise) 2025 Synod Assembly Offering Video-LCSNW

  • Speaking of videos, a highlight of the Assembly was watching the different videos submitted by congregations and ministry partners. I highly recommend people watch them to get a sense of some of the ways God’s love is springing up across the NWIM Synod (and beyond!). We have created a YouTube playlist that includes each of the videos as well as the recording of the whole Assembly (edited down to remove the breaks). View those videos here: 2025 Synod Assembly - YouTube

  • If you attended the 2025 NWIM Synod Assembly, we’d be grateful for your feedback. Please take a few minutes to respond to a few questions to help us evaluate the registration process and the online Synod Assembly. For those who already completed this form, THANK YOU! The word “synod” transliterated from the ancient Greek language it comes from means something like “on the road together.” Thank you for being on this journey with me and with each other. I’m grateful for you companionship. I’m grateful for all the ways the people and ministry sites of the NWIM Synod are wellsprings of God’s love.

Gratefully,

Pastor Phil Misner
