There are several opportunities in the next couple of years to be with our companions in the Ulanga Kilombero Diocese in Tanzania (the UKD). These are amazing and life-altering trips where you experience life in a very different culture being hosted by our siblings in Christ.
There are two distinctly different options for traveling. The first is in July of 2027 and is a group of volunteers to work at Tumaini Lutheran Secondary School or Lugala Lutheran Hospital. The volunteers will live at the school for three weeks and plan to contribute time and energy to these ministries of the UKD. An open heart and mind to serve in places that the UKD would find most helpful is needed. There are spaces for about 4 additional people.
The other option is a Synod Trip to be with our partners (Bega kwa Bega trip – Shoulder to Shoulder trip). On a Synod Trip, the group experiences many different ministries of the UKD, such as Tumaini Lutheran School, Lugala Lutheran Hospital, Strobelt Pre and Primary School, a few congregations, and the Diocese headquarters and leadership team. That trip is more about nurturing our growing relationship and learning from one another. There are two opportunities coming: Oct 11-28, 2027 and July 2028.
There is more information on the Synod Trip on the Synod Website under the Ministries Tab. Applications for the October 2027 trip are due in January. If you are interested in the volunteer trip, please contact Deacon Heidi Cryer, chair of the Companion Synod Team, at hacryer@gmail.com. Participants for the volunteer trip should be finalized by early February.
Asante Sana (Thank you very much) for walking together with our partners in the UKD!
Heidi Cryer
