Over the past month 240 people, from 56 different ministry sites, spanning 6 generations and including 10 decades (ages ranged from 3 months to over 90 years old!) came together in three different locations across the Northwest Intermountain Synod. Linda Staats was our facilitator for each of the gatherings as we formed faith across the ages and generations. We sang and danced, we ate and were filled, we listened and shared as we wondered together where the Holy Spirit is leading us now.

We Have a Choice
On Sabbatical
At the end of this month (May 23rd, to be precise) I will be taking a 3-month sabbatical as is provided for by the synod sabbatical policy. To the best of my knowledge, I am the first bishop of the synod to take advantage of this policy, so it naturally brings along with it some level of anxiety for everyone.

Answering God's Call to Serve Refugees
From Jewish Law to Christian Gospel, the call of God is unmistakable. The Church and its people must care for the foreigner and stranger, the oppressed and dispossessed – in a word, the refugee. And when we answer that call, blessings return to us tenfold. Foreigners become friends. Strangers become neighbors. Refugees contribute to our broader economy, culture and community.
