Sharing Abundance
The Northwest Intermountain Synod has a long track record of sharing the abundance that God has provided our congregations and people. The results are evident whenever we look at the many ways that the greater church has benefited and when we reflect on the impact of these efforts.
Our siblings in Christ of the Ulanga Kilibero Diocese in Tanzania have used the gifts by benefiting the schools that the Lutherans established many years ago. Scholarships and projects have established the schools as vital to the region and the many families who have their children educated to the highest levels.
Tanzania and Eastern Africa have again suffered from flooding and rains that have damaged roads, bridges and agriculture. The crops of maize and rice that the schools depend on have been wiped out. Some parts of the diocese are not easily accessed and the government resources to repair infrastructure will take a while.
The Global Mission Team is asking our congregations and members to respond again to the needs of the UKD schools. Our goal is to raise $22,500 for flood relief, to be used for purchasing food as well as repairs to the playground at the Strobelt school that suffered damage. The diocesan and school officials have been very careful in shepherding resources and providing the best results for the students under difficult conditions.
We ask that everyone pray for the safety and ongoing needs of the schools and especially the students. Your gifts are always honored and appreciated. The short-term needs are offset by the long-term benefits that will benefit the diocese and its continuing mission and work in Tanzania.
All gifts can be made via the synod website through the Donate button on the pull down menu and then select ‘Global Mission - Tanzania’. You may also send checks directly to the synod office and clearly indicate for Tanzania Flood Relief
