A Message from Phil Misner on Leadership Development

What I want to communicate at this point is that Cal Lutheran, PLTS, and leaders across Regions 1 & 2 are committed to finding ways to promote leadership development for pastors, deacons, and lay people (and that is also the case for the other ELCA universities and seminaries). Further, there is great interest—and need—to strengthen collaboration between these institutions of learning and ministry sites across the country. We all have much to teach to each other, and much to learn from each other.

ELCA Fund for Leaders

Each year the Fund for Leaders provides approximately 40 full-tuition scholarships to future ELCA pastors and deacons who attend ELCA seminaries. In spring 2023, the Fund for Leaders will once again offer scholarships to seminary students — and we need your help to spread the word!

The application window for full-tuition scholarships will be open from Nov. 15, 2022, to Feb. 25, 2023.

Thriving Leadership Formation New Cohort

For people in ministry in the Northwest Intermountain Synod of the ELCA AND ecumenical colleagues:

  • You desire to be grounded in your life, but are pulled in many directions.

  • You yearn for deep connection – to God, to others, to yourself – but are not sure where to start.

  • You are curious about spiritual practices – silence, deep listening, prayer – but are not very good at practicing them on your own.

Together, we will learn again to pay attention to our lives and our communities and rediscover God’s sustaining presence in our midst.

Continuing the work of Campus Ministry at PLU

PLU Campus Ministry is off and running for fall semester, reconnecting with continuing students and meeting new Lutes. There is good energy. Every new year and season brings its changes, and this fall we’ve made a few changes in Campus Ministry programming and the ways Campus Ministry is contributing to PLU’s mission and care for the spiritual development of students and community. It’s a time of ongoing reformation, ministry, and hopefully transformation, too
