One way we hope to live into being Synod together is gathering those who serve on councils or boards of ministries for a monthly check-in with each other.

Gatherings for Retired Rostered Leaders

Simple gatherings: light refreshments, devotion, hymn sing, and, most importantly, time catching up with one another and Bishop Manlove. More details to come.

When I meet with a group of people in the NWIM Synod—whether it is a group of deacons and pastors, a council, call committee, or any other group—more often than not I start that meeting with a spiritual practice called “Dwelling in the Word.” This exercise, which includes prayer, hearing a scripture passage read twice, sharing curiosities and where attentions lie, and wondering together what God might be up to has a way grounding whatever conversation comes next in God’s tender mercy.

 First, thank you so much to everyone who attended our 2024 Spring Regional Gatherings! Thank you to our three wonderful host congregations: Advent in Spokane Valley, Our Savior in Twin Falls, and First Lutheran in Ellensburg. Your hospitality was fabulous.

This retreat will be one way we supplement the online learning with the Montana Synod. But what might a person do after they go through the LMA two-year program? What does that time and training prepare you to do?

Pride. It’s not a simple thing. Listed among the seven deadly sins. Noted for coming before a fall. Rarely praised as a virtue except in the case of school spirit. And the collective noun for a group of lions. But in the old song Deb led us in as we walked the streets of Spokane with our supportive signs and smiling faces, we came to a stanza that sings, “and we’ll guard each one’s dignity and save each one’s pride.” Pride!
